I have always wanted to play a musical instrument, but I never got a chance growing-up. When my kids were small, I encouraged them to try to learn an instrument. My youngest, played the trumpet during his jr. high years. He liked it, but he wanted to venture out and try something else. His next musical choice was the keyboard. I bought a reasonably priced keyboard that came with some music songs and tunes. He enjoyed this much more. In his spare time, he would play and as time went on, he tried his hand at songwriting. Listening to his own music compositions was very entertaining. My other son tried the guitar and still enjoys a riff or two. Music is such an important part of our lives and learning to play a musical instrument adds so much to our lives and personality. Reading sheet music, songwriting and playing any instrument can last through-out our lives. Even if you get away from playing for awhile, most of the time, you know you can come back to it and start creating again. I think I may take up playing the guitar. You are never to old to learn.
