Growing-up, I listened numerous times to my uncle’s band. He played various tunes, mostly Mexican music songs, jazz and old-time favorites. He was so talented in playing the piano and saxophone. He also was a songwriter. For his time, his band was very popular and was always booked for various gigs. I remember going to many weddings where he was playing and my parents would go to the dance halls and enjoy listening and dancing to his music. I grew to appreciate many types of music because of him. I would listen to my generation of music, but listening to my uncle play jazz and his solos on the saxophone was memorable. Unfortunately, my uncle is no longer around, but his music songs lives on through tapes and CD’s. Many in my family play various musical instruments and it is great when we have reunions. Some come with their guitars, accordians, trumpets and even harmonicas. Music is such a universal language that everyone enjoys. I only wished that I had the talent to play an instrument too.
