songwriting, songwriterIt takes talent to be a songwriter and I know this to be true because I have tried it. I was never a serious songwriter and I did not make any money from it.  To be honest I penned the lyrics after I was given the melody.  The songwriting I did was for a band I fronted for a short while in my early twenties. I found out that songwriting takes more than just talent, too. It also takes courage. The band I sang in comprised of four guys and me. After penning and performing the lyrics of the song I felt as though I had laid myself bare in front of these guys emotionally. The song was about a turbulent on again off again relationship I was in and the lyrics were somewhat angry. The band I was in played rock music and when we performed the song with the guitarist’s music and my lyrics apparently we sounded a bit like Skunk Anansie although to be honest I don’t think we were anywhere near as talented and my lyrics were not that good. Still I really enjoyed the process of songwriting and performing what I had written even though I was a mere amateur.
